Frederick Douglas Haynes Gardens

1049 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco, CA

Frederick Douglas Haynes Gardens serves lower-income residents in the Fillmore District in San Francisco. The project renovates and rehabilitates all the existing apartments, corridors, and shared spaces to improve the quality of life for a community that includes multi-generational families and seniors.

Site Square Footage: ~235,000 sq. ft.

Date Completed: 2022

Construction Cost: $100 million

Client:  HumanGood

Architect: Paulett Taggart Architects

General Contractor: Nibbi Brothers

The Third Baptist Church, the first African-American congregation west of the Rockies, embarked on a redevelopment of this apartment complex. The complex includes six three-story apartment buildings with a 104-unit affordable housing complex containing one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments. These existing buildings are founded at-grade.

Rockridge Geotechnical (RG) performed a geotechnical consultation regarding the potential mitigation of building settlement that occurred prior to the renovation and provided recommendations for new foundations.
