Tahanan Supportive Housing

833 Bryant Street, San Francisco, CA

Tahanan features five residential levels over a concrete ground level dedicated to community uses. Factory modules fabricated off-site were placed above the concrete level. The 145-unit Tahanan complex provides housing for formerly unhoused individuals.

Date Completed: 2022

Client: Mercy Housing

Architect: David Baker Architects

Structural Engineer: DCI Engineers

Civil Engineer: Luk + Associates

General Contractor: Cahill Contractors

Rockridge Geotechnical (RG) performed the geotechnical investigation and provided services during the construction of the Tahanan complex. Based on the results of the geotechnical investigation, RG recommended that the building be supported on a shallow foundation bearing on ground improvement. The ground improvement was designed to transfer building loads below a surficial layer of loose to medium-dense fill and native dune sand.
